Serena Williams is, to some degree, a force to be reckoned with in the tennis world. With that said, though, she began her career in the court like everyone else: at square one. Back when she was still going to school, Williams, alongside her sister Venus, would often learn how to play from their coach and join junior tournaments.

Today, the American tennis player, fashion designer, and businesswoman is considered one of the best female tennis players of all time and one of the world’s highest-paid athletes. She has been number one in the world rankings eight times and has taken home more prize money than any other player combined. She has won medals in Sydney, Beijing, London and has won 23 Grand Slam titles. Williams has also founded the Serena Williams Foundation, which helps underprivileged students finance their education. She and her sisteralso play tennis to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House charities.
